Highway Star is a song on the game Rock Band by Deep Purple. It is one of the hardest songs in the game, and is placed appropriately (It is in the last tier for every instrument except drums. On the Wii version it is placed in the second last tier for every instrument). It is roughly 6 minutes long, and features a solo by Ritchie Blackmore which is almost 2 minutes long and is by many considered to be one of the hardest solos in the game. The drum part features numerous complex fills that are difficult to do with a standard Rock Band drumset. The bass guitar has a complex riff in the beginning but the rest of the song is relatively easy in comparison. The singing part is challenging to distinguish and therefore can be quite difficult at times. Also notable is that a shortened version of the song is played in the intro movie for Rock Band.

Tip

The guitar solo is the part many people are stuck on. For the triplets, don't panic. Play the notes, and do it distinctly and with confidence. Don't just tap the frets and hope it'll work to your favor. If you have a Fender Stratocaster controller, try playing the first two notes of each triplet (G R and R Y respectively) on the high frets and tapping the third one (Y and B, respectively) with your right hand on the high frets. For the part afterwards (O, O, G, G, B, B, G, G, Y, Y, G, G, B, B and so on...), Strum in sixteenth notes (4 strums per beat-This requires you to strum up and down), keep your index held down on the green note, and hit the other notes (R, Y, B and O) with your other three fingers. If possible (XBOX 360 and PS3 only) use a Les Paul or Guitar Hero World Tour guitar as the strum bar is more precise. It is by many believed to be near to impossible to FC (full combo) the solo with a Fender Stratocaster controller.
